Half time

Posted in B. by B. on the April 26th, 2007

8:47 Only half day today since I’ll be going early to take my drivers licence examination :)
 Let’s all agree that I can’t fail.

16:17 I was so nervous! But I totally passed!  Owlraait :D
I was sitting in the waiting room with my grandpa, 2 other examinees (word?) and their co-drivers. One of them was a sturdy young guy, with a face made out of cold steel. Although all of us started talking some, he didn’t show me a single emotion. Afterwards, when I returned, I saw him coming out of the building where they give you your results after the examination.
His face had changed from “Ice” to “Party”. His smile almost split his face in half :P The emotion “Cold Steel” was just a great defence he pulled up. He yelled from afar “I passed” and that’s when my  examinator told me “and so are you”.
That was the greatest moment in ages :D The relief instantly made the 30°C not annoying but summery, the examinator all of a sudden was not the bad guy but my friend, the que at the desk was not very long but just a nice time to chat with ppl.

And then there was beer :D

Part of the system now

Since J. ain’t adding much lately and I’m hired Fo’ Real, I figured I could add to the ranting here.

I managed to pass yesterday, my first day without falling asleep. Quite an accomplishment if you ask me. Since fighting sleep is rather tiresome, thus adding to it’s own challenge. It’s an endless loop …
Reading books about Linux all day long ain’t that exciting as you would think. Especially when there’s no real goal ahead.
It’s school all over again; Learn for the sake of learning. No task, no future, no fun.

And most of all: no holiday! There will be no single day off for me this year.
Since it’s my first year of work and free days are calculated on your working days of last year, there’s none for me.
That sux.
A lot …

11:13 Yes! I found a site that has decent, easily digestible tutorial information on Linux:
http://www.linuxcommand.org/lts0030.php
Maybe today won’t be that bad after all!

13:35 Linux is progressing well. I finally know what I should have learned a few years back at School. Linux shell scripts are kinda cool.
Talked with the interns here. They definitely don’t want to work here. The firm tried the same strategy on them as they
(succesfully) used on me: pressure. They give you a real short time to think about your contract in order to keep
you from thinking it over.

16:09 only 21 more minutes :)
