The Intern

Headeaches

Posted in Internship, P. by P. on the April 30th, 2007

(15:00) The whole weekend suffered from a serieus headeach. Went to bed yesterday @ 10 pm but couldn’t sleep because of the killing pain. And yet today is another painfull day. Adding that to total boredom and you can understand that I wish someone is coming to get me out of this shithole. Maybe a check up would be in order ..
Really counting down to the day I can close the door and think to myself: “aaagh never going to return here EVER again” …
Bug fixing is boring …

Everybody has holliday

Posted in Internship by B. on the April 30th, 2007

13:47 This morning the buss was nearly empty. Everybody was still enjoying their sleep. Heck, even all my bosses are not working today. I’m here at work with 5 other interns. Sadly I have my serious doubts about the collegiality of some, so leaving is no option. Have spent the last few hours trying to fix a corrupt update from IE6 to IE7. Finally fixed it and got IE6 and IE7 to run next to each other. Why do you bother with IE when you have a great browser called Opera you might ask.
It’s purely for dev purpose. The javascript the client used for the navigation doesn’t run in IE7. So it’s up to me to convince her NOT to use javascript for her navigation. Since she made her site with Frontpage, I don’t think arguments like accesibility, maintenance, incompatibility and web standards will have any impact.

Day 61

Posted in Internship, D. by D. on the April 30th, 2007

10.48: Getting up at 07.30 in the morning to drag myself to the shower is getting harder each morning to say the least. We finished the analysis and are now waiting for input (which doesn’t come, priority 5 remember) from our boss. So I’m playing with AJAX a little.
13.33: 3 more hours! Then I can enjoy life !
14.40: If everyone here was dead now, I wouldn’t notice.

3 more weeks

Posted in Internship, P. by P. on the April 27th, 2007

(14:34) Today i quit at 16h instead of 17h.  Is niiiice. Can’t wait. Going to ski in Landgraaf. And 3 more weeks to go after today. Can’t wait for that either. It’s getting quite boring doing 3 months the same job every day. And I’m tired of debugging and unit testing whole day long …

Driver’s licences and buss delays

Posted in Internship by B. on the April 27th, 2007

9:11 First day with a driver’s licence. But I have to wait until they created my official document, so still with the buss today. I came 30 minutes later then planned :S
Met P. on the way here. He didn’t know I was B :P
Really hope the day goes by fast, but I’m really tired. Even double coffee dose couldn’t keep me awake.

13:10 I got a side project: debugging a page. It was originally created in .. Frontpage!
Normally I’d hate that kind of jobs, but right now it’s the most fun thing available, xcept for lunch :) Anyway, time’s almost flying.

13:43 Apparently, the ISP Telenet merged their upload and download limits.

Day 60

Posted in Internship, D. by D. on the April 27th, 2007

08.40: The days seem longer, the hours pass by slower, and I wish I could enjoy the sunshine without an airconditioning. Since I finished the Schedules-part yesterday, the analysis is almost complete. Which means that I have to find something to keep me busy.
09.47: AJAXCIFY!!!
11.46: The code here on StarTeam contains errors and can’t compile…
13.09: The frisbee keeps me alive in here! And the other intern just told me a story about how is uncle killed a puppy.

Nope!

Was not accepted @ Deloitte. Asked why..
They called me. My Business Vision was not good enough (meaning that I couldn’t pursuade ppl enough). Consulting skills weren’t so bright either apparently (doooh) They said that I had not enough confidence (Euh what ever).
They gave me a 2,5 and would only continue with ppl who they have given a 3. He said I was a ‘randgeval’.
Good points were: Social, Friendly, Very good analytical insight …
“But you don’t buy bread with that.” (Totally screwing up my English now…)
‘Best’ news is that I have to make up this day of interviews. Gonna be 15 weeks + 1 day. Thanks bossie….

Like I said … Stupid interviews …

Day 59

Posted in Internship, D. by D. on the April 26th, 2007

09.28: Work is almost running out. Let’s hope that some magical figure will come to this place to take me away or maybe it can give us the answers we need about the outdated web console it gave us :|
10.38: I will spend my lunch with the frisbee and 2 colleagues!
13.29: Bluh, I wish I was at home. With some cooling beverages!
16.02: B. will know if he failed or not by now.

Half time

Posted in B. by B. on the April 26th, 2007

8:47 Only half day today since I’ll be going early to take my drivers licence examination :)
 Let’s all agree that I can’t fail.

16:17 I was so nervous! But I totally passed!  Owlraait :D
I was sitting in the waiting room with my grandpa, 2 other examinees (word?) and their co-drivers. One of them was a sturdy young guy, with a face made out of cold steel. Although all of us started talking some, he didn’t show me a single emotion. Afterwards, when I returned, I saw him coming out of the building where they give you your results after the examination.
His face had changed from “Ice” to “Party”. His smile almost split his face in half :P The emotion “Cold Steel” was just a great defence he pulled up. He yelled from afar “I passed” and that’s when my  examinator told me “and so are you”.
That was the greatest moment in ages :D The relief instantly made the 30°C not annoying but summery, the examinator all of a sudden was not the bad guy but my friend, the que at the desk was not very long but just a nice time to chat with ppl.

And then there was beer :D

The system goes down

Posted in Internship by B. on the April 25th, 2007

8:30 Great, finally some excitement! When I came someone put on the light, and the power went down. Servers started beeping, customers started calling and keys were being searched for.

9:00 The fuss was over rather quickly, we opened the server room (after finding the key next to the door :P) and I switched on main power. Appeared that besides servers, it was mainly the UPS who was beeping. Yes, the UPS went down  :P
Furthermore, appeared that the servers were NOT behind the UPS .. Why they have a UPS in the first place then boggles me …

10:08 Unlike D. ppl talk to me here. Sadly…
Their salesmen smooth talks are not what I’m waiting for. Luckily there’s the interns here. They are more on my lvl. They want to get out of here as fast as they can too … I really have to make work of that other job opportunity.

10:37 God bless http://www.last.fm

11:50 Jeej, finally getting to flow control structures! This scripting is going places!
Almost lunch and day progresses acceptably swift:)
